Retrieving or changing a domain password

If your domain name was registered with Netregistry, your Domain Name Password can be found by logging in to The Console™. A Domain Name Password is required to facilitate a domain name transfer.

  1. Log into the The Console™
  2. Click Domain Name icon
  3. Domain Name Password is visible

Domain name registered elsewhere, or not sure?

.AU domain names including .COM.AU, .NET.AU, .ASN.AU, .ORG.AU, .ID.AU

  1. Go to http://admin.auda.org.au/passwordMail/PasswordMail
  2. Enter your domain name and auDA will inform you from which Domain Registrar you can recover your domain name password, as well as offer you the option to recover your domain name password by email
  3. Click the button "Email" if your email address is correct
  4. If your email address has changed, you can contact that Registrar by phone/email and request your domain name password

Retrieving management passwords for top level domains .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO etc.

You will need to get in touch with your existing registrar to retrieve the domain password for your domain. Many registrars will refer to this password as an "auth info" password, or an "epp password". Each registrar has different methods for retrieving passwords.

  1. Go to http://www.geektools.com/whois.php
  2. Click on Whois link then type in your domain name
  3. Find the information described as "Registrar name", or "Registrar of Record"
  4. Contact this company for information about retrieving your domain password.

Password Clarification

Domain password

The term "domain password" is used to refer to the password used to transfer a .au domain name between registrars. The password is unique for each domain name.

EPP password

This refers to the password that is needed to transfer the registration of com/net/org/info/biz domain names between registrars. The password is unique for each domain name

Auth Info password

This refers to the password that is needed to transfer the registration of com/net/org/info/biz domain names between registrars. The password is unique for each domain name

Registry Key

This is a password that is typically used by some registrars to log into their domain management system, and is usually different from the domain password/auth info password/epp password.

"Incorrect Password" Error

If you are receiving an "incorrect password" error, the password you are providing for the transfer of your domain is not the password that is needed to facilitate the transfer. The correct password can be downloaded from:
